CHILD CUSTODY: Alexandria, Fairfax and Arlington

One of the most highly disputed family law issues is child custody. In Virginia, courts are officially charged with finding a solution that is in the best interest of the child or children at the center of these disputes. Unfortunately, without intimate knowledge of the situation, the parents, and the child, a court is inevitably at a disadvantage when trying to evaluate what this best interest is.

At Silis & Associates, we will work closely with you to try and negotiate a plan that best suits the needs of the parents and, more importantly, the needs of your child. Custody involves both physical and legal custody. Physical Custody is the actual living arrangement of the child and the rights and responsibilities associated with daily child care. Legal custody is the right to make decisions about the child’s upbringing concerning education, health care and religion. The physical and legal custody are divided depending on whether there is sole, joint or split custody. Our goal is to settle these disputes amicably, as these decisions have long-lasting effects in most situations. However, when parents cannot agree, or when your child is in danger, we will advocate aggressively on your behalf in court.
